Abstract


The purpose of this study is to estimate the preventive effect for dental caries by 3 years water fluoridation of Ok-cheon county in Korea, and to examine the dental fluorosis and other systemic diseases.
Dental and medical survey had been done for 223 children from the year 1997 to 2000, for 6-year old, 9year old and 11-year old children at Ok-cheon County.
The obtained results were collected and compared with the control group. The obtained results were as follows.

1. Dental caries were reduced at the 27% on DMFT index and 14% on DMFS index in children of age 11 for 3 years.
2. There is neither evidence for the increase of dental fluorosis rate nor the physical specification syndromes at the On-cheon County children for 3 years.
3. We need more water fluoridation periods for expecting more fluoridation effect.
